Reboot
Many years ago, before all the high-tech devices, we had basic cable. When the cable went out and you called tech support, the first thing they told you to do was unplug the cable box, wait a minute, and plug it back in. This was the beginning of rebooting. Since then, we’ve learned to reboot computers, cell phones, and other devices. Isn’t it about time we learn to reboot ourselves?
It is so important that we give ourselves downtime—time without technology, time without devices, time without people, time without the busyness of life. It is just as essential as eating right, exercising, and going to church. We need to unplug and allow ourselves time before plugging back in.
I am in a period of rebooting—spending moments with family but also spending a lot of time alone. Nothing distracts my thoughts—just peace and quiet. Watching my dog race back and forth across a field before collapsing into pure bliss. Listening to the birds wake up in the morning. Watching the sun rise and set. Napping in the sun with a warm breeze blanketing my body.
Freedom from schedules and duties, the happiness of simple pleasures, and the serenity I find in nature. That’s what rebooting is all about. It is a time to refill my coffers, boost my creativity, remind me of my passions, and reconnect with where I came from. It is helping guide me in my next steps and providing the energy I will need to climb my next mountain.
But for now, I reboot.
